What fish can survive on plants alone? 2 Years, 7 Months ago	Karma: 0
Ive herd that goldfish, platy and mollies all can survive almost entirely off of eating plants alone with feeding them flakes maybe once every week and a half. I have had goldfish doing great on this system. What other fish can do this? Thanks!

Hi andrewmoquin, Probably some of the algae eating catfish such as plecostomus, but I wouldn't rely on any fish feeding itself in a closed system. Mollies and platys will eat most aquarium prepared foods. I would still feed them daily to keep them healthy and let them pick at plants as a supplement. Mark ATF

Neither Goldfish nor Channel Cats should be kept in 10g, a slap to the wrist to whomever sold you these fish. As for the "algae eater" that little common name can be applied to good dozen or so fish, I'm going to assume it's a Chinese Algae Eater which is NOTORIOUS for chowing on fish slime-coat. ---------------- Simply Fish Tanks UK
