What fish can survive on plants alone? 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Ive herd that goldfish, platy and mollies all can survive almost entirely off of eating plants alone with feeding them flakes maybe once every week and a half.

I have had goldfish doing great on this system.

What other fish can do this? Thanks!

Hi andrewmoquin,

Probably some of the algae eating catfish such as plecostomus, but I wouldn't rely on any fish feeding itself in a closed system. Mollies and platys will eat most aquarium prepared foods. I would still feed them daily to keep them healthy and let them pick at plants as a supplement.
